Donzella James

State Senator Roger Bruce

W “hen Ralph Long, III was first elected to the Georgia House, he asked me to show him around the Capitol and offer guidance to him as a legislator. From the very start of his term in office, I knew that Ralph was straightforward, bold and focused on how to make our state work better for all of us. I have watched Ralph grow in his public service, business and family life over the years. I am supporting Ralph Long, III for State Senate because his perspective as a lifelong Atlantan and strong roots in Georgia uniquely qualify him to represent District 38 and its people.”

I have a reputation for my constituent accessibility, a thorough understanding of the policy issues facing our state, excellent relationships with local media, and full utilization of social networking. As a Legislator, I was proud to:

  • Author legislative proposals addressing issues affecting public education, public transportation and environmental protection.
  • Organize and sponsor widely attended town hall meetings throughout my legislative district that brought constituents together with local and state government officials in order to discuss issues of concern.
  • Sponsor HB 206, Whistleblower Protection legislation intended to protect state employees who report waste, fraud and abuse within their employing agencies.
  • Ferociously support MARTA and public transit.
  • Author legislation to restrict the use of pentachlorophenol, a carcinogenic substance used in the preservation of wood telephone poles.
  • Work to reform the Atlanta Public Schools System after the standardized cheating debacle of recent years.
  • Advocate for supporting public safety and community-based policing initiatives.
  • Support strengthening local code enforcement, fighting blight and addressing other quality-of-life issues that impact public safety.
  • Maintain strong partnership with district Higher Education community, particularly Atlanta Technical College and Atlanta Metropolitan State College, by securing state infrastructure and modernization funding for the colleges.

Through my lifetime of service as an elected official and active community member, I have never wavered from my dedication to improving our public schools, fighting for the economic interests of families, and supporting state government policies that make us all stronger. As a lifelong Atlantan and product of our public schools, I have deep roots in Georgia. Those roots in our beautiful state keep me grounded in the values of community service, leadership and building strong families.
